Abstract
2026 marks the centenary of an eminent Soviet historian, Lubov Aleksandrovna Kotelnikova (1926-1988). Having completely devoted her life to the study of the socio-economic history of Medieval Italy, she not only became one of the greatest medievalists of the Soviet Union but was also actively engaging in contemporary scholarly debates within Italian academia, making a significant contribution to historical research. This article, prepared specifically for Italian readers, aims to shed light on Kotelnikova’s life journey and the evolution of her scholarly work. Under what conditions did she conduct her research? How did her academic interests develop? What was the central focus of her studies on Medieval history? In this article, we will attempt to answer these and some other non-obvious yet essential questions.
