Il contributo è incentrato sull’analisi di sei registri conservati nel fondo Antico Comune dell’Archivio di Stato di Genova nella serie Stipendiarum monstrae, serie costituita dalle rassegne effettuate dal vivo delle milizie arruolate e che descrivono dettagliatamente il quadro militare di molte zone, sia in tempo di guerra sia di pace, quando gli uomini assoldati tendono a diventare guarnigione regolare. Questi sei registri, redatti tra la seconda metà del secolo XIV e la prima del successivo, sono gli unici a fornire informazioni sugli equini a disposizione di Genova dal momento che in caso di guerra le necessità della città sono rivolte principalmente all’armamento sul mare, il quale presenta caratteristiche e amministrazione proprie.

This article focuses on the analysis of six registers preserved in the Antico Comune fond of the Archivio di Stato di Genova within the Stipendiarum monstrae series; a series consisting of reviews of enlisted militias that describe in detail the military situation in many areas, in both times of war and peace, when those who were hired generally became part of the regular garrison. These six registers, drawn up between the mid-14th and the first half of the following century, are the only ones that provide information on the presence of horses for warfare in Genoa, since in the event of war the city’s needs were mainly directed towards naval armament, which had its specific characteristics and administration.
